We are committed to making sure that our services are available to everyone. We are aware that our Grade II listed building has limitations on accessibility, but we are keen to make the experience as accessible as we possibly can, as far as it is practical and reasonable to do so.

Lift access

The Gin School is situated on the second floor of a Grade II listed building. There is a lift in the main building entrance and a small lift which makes upper floors accessible to all. All floor surfaces are level, firm and covered with either tiles or laminate flooring. Please contact us for further details.

Seating arrangements

Seating is provided by the way of backed stools. We also have some low chairs with backs, should this make you more comfortable. Some customers like to stand up - this is fine too. It's your experience and we want you to enjoy it.

Our stills are quite high at 1.25 metres; however, we can assist you loading the still, and extend the pipe so that your gin is distilled onto a bench at a more comfortable height.  We advise customers who wish us to have this ready for them upon arrival to contact us at point of booking so we can welcome you prepared.

Hearing and sight

Our Gin School experience is one for all of your senses to enjoy. We welcome assistance dogs and have a hearing loop to assist those who require it.  We also have a written script for you to follow, should you require it. Upon request, we can ensure a member of staff remains close by to assist/repeat instructions etc. We can also supply drinking water (instead of gin) for assistance dogs too. Our distillery is well lit with additional lighting available; it is also well ventilated and air-conditioned.

Clear language

We aim to explain things as clearly as possible using simple language that you can understand. Please ask if you'd like anything repeated or explained in clearer terms.

Toilet facilities

Our gender neutral toilets on the second floor have level access. We also have ground level accessible toilets. Please use our lift for access.

Stairs

The stairs have handrails throughout the building. The treads have solid risers with colour contrasting nosings. Stairs are carpeted with short pile carpet. There is a good colour contrast between the stairs and adjoining wall. Lighting levels are suitable.

Transport/parking options for getting to and from the School

We recommend not driving to the event so that you can fully enjoy sampling our wonderful gins, and you can sample your own gin as you distil it. However, we do have a range of non-alcoholic drinks for drivers. Remember, we can also help you to make a non-alcoholic spirit if you would prefer. Please let us know in advance if you would like this option.

We are in the 'Old Town', so there is easy access from the taxi drop off point in Silver Street. There are Blue Badge/accessible parking bays on nearby Silver Street and Market Place. There is parking at King William House on Lowgate. There is no onsite parking.

The nearest bus stop is outside King William House on Market Place which is served by bus numbers; 78, 79, 86, 934, 11A and Simplibus 12A & 16. 

Reading and writing

Our Gin School experience does not require you to be able to read and write, with the exception of weighing out and recording your chosen botanicals, where we will be happy to assist.

We have aimed to design our website to make it as accessible as possible while remaining visually interesting and easy to use.

Clear language

We aim to explain things as clearly as possible using simple language that you can understand.

Images and alt tags

Where images are used we have added text alternatives in ALT tags. This means you will still know what the image is meant to convey if it doesn't load, if you are browsing with images switched off, or if you are using assistive technology such as a screen reader.

Videos

Wherever possible, we include subtitles and captions in our online videos. We use YouTube to host videos, which has a number of accessibility features, including the ability to increase the size and language of the subtitles.

Then settings

Select show advanced settings in the web content section

OR

Right click top bar and select menu bar. The menu bar should appear

Choose zoom text only

Apple Safari (All versions)

Click zoom text only

Choose zoom in to make the text larger or zoom out to make the font smaller (in older versions of Safari you need to choose make text bigger or make text smaller) 

Assistive technology
