What a crazy week!

March 29, 2018

What a crazy week!

In the old days, I’d have been enjoying the prospect of two weeks off work, with a pile of marking the only blot on the landscape.

How things have changed! We started the week with big plans to finally produce our first batch of gin - and we did it! Hotham’s first gin was officially born on 25th March 2018, and, like proud parents, we watched bottles of our Hotham’s Handcrafted Gin wing their way to our warehouse with teary eyes.

But there was no time to dwell on this at the Distillery. On 26th March, our second recipe, Hotham’s Cardamom Gin, also went into production, and was born, bottled and despatched to be with big brother by bedtime.

Last week, The Hull Daily Mail ran a story on our plans to locate our micro-distillery to Hepworth’s Arcade, and to open a Gin School. We hadn’t made a big fuss over our plans, or even told many people, as we were waiting for so many other parts of the jigsaw to fall into place. Keeping things under the Hotham’s hat, though, was not meant to be…

For someone used to keeping a low profile online (not you, Simon), the attention our story received was amazing! We were delighted to hear that the people of Hull are as excited as we are about our venture. This was confirmed this week when our Hull Gin School social media accounts started drawing in followers. It really took us aback, and it was a mad rush to launch our website (a big thank you to Paul, for getting this up and running so quickly!) and to get on top of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as our phones started going mad. A big G&T was definitely in order after that!

Earlier this year, we visited another Gin School where the Distiller told us that his aim was to produce his ‘go to’ gin - the gin he would choose to drink himself. After months of tweaking, experimenting and, of course, tasting, we have created our ‘go to’ gins. We hope that you’ll try them both soon and agree with us!
