It’s that time of year again when we serve up another amazing gin experience and unleash the brilliance of our delicious Hotham’s Hot Mulled Gin! Yes, it sounds odd - serving a summer favourite like our handcrafted gin in a warm cocktail - but trust us and give it a go. It’s just the job if you’re outside with a bonfire or family fireworks this weekend, and it’s just the treat we need now we’re in a second lockdown.
If you use a spiced gin like our award-winning Cardamom Gin, you’ll find that the warmth accentuates the spice and creates a real treat for the senses. Breathe in the heady aromas of juniper, cardamom, cinnamon and ginger. Feel the warmth of ginger, spiced citrus and sweet apple as you take your first sip. Enjoy the glow as it spreads through your body. And top up your glass before someone else snaffles it.
Here’s our recipe if you want to give Hotham’s Hot Mulled Gin a go:
Add the apple juice to a pan with the citrus peel. Add the spices, and honey to taste. Bring to a gentle simmer then turn down and keep over a low heat for about ten minutes.
Pour your gin (we use a double measure) into heatproof glasses or mugs then top up with your spiced apple juice. Garnish with orange zest if you want to be fancy! We find that one litre of juice makes four hot mulled gin serves.
